When Susie Bowen inherits a charming fixer-upper from her aunt, she’s excited to start living her best HGTV life. But when she opens the door to find that her contractor is none other than her ex’s best friend, Lars—the same man who witnessed their humiliating public breakup six months ago—she isn’t exactly eager to have anyone around whose alliance is with the enemy. But beggars can’t be choosers, and the sooner the repairs are done, the sooner she can get back to embracing singledom.
Things go from awkward to unbelievable when Lars discovers a divorce certificate hidden in a wall and dated ten years in the future—with both their names on it. It couldn’t possibly be real…could it? As Susie and Lars work to unravel the document’s origins, the impossibility of a spark between them suddenly doesn’t seem so far-fetched. But would a relationship between them be doomed before it’s even begun?
Review:
Thank you NetGalley, Graydon House Books & Kylie Scott for a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
First of all, this cover!!! How cute! This story starts off with Susie and how the last six months of her life have been super rough. She got dumped and she lost her Aunt Susan (who she was named after) all in a short span of time. She has been fighting with her family after inheriting her aunt’s home. She’s ready to move forward and start her best HGTV life. She calls a contractor and who shows up at her door? Of course, her ex’s best friend, Lars. They’re doing work in the home and things get a little crazy…
Susie finds a divorce certificate in one of the walls that is for her and Lars dated for ten years in the future. This book was about figuring out how it got put into the wall in the first place and this caused them to spend time together.
There were aspects of this book that I really loved. This wasn’t really any trope that I’ve seen before. Of course, there’s forbidden romance thrown in here as well as some enemies to friends to lovers. But the divorce certificate? Chefs kiss! Plus, hearing and talking to people throughout the book and seeing how it all would play out in 10 years was amazing!
Unfortunately, there were certain parts that did slow down and caused me to either rush through them to get to the next good part or put the book down entirely. Because of these parts, I had to remove a couple stars from my rating!
Overall, I did really like this story and would be happy to give Kylie Scott another try!
